New technologies allow the complete and exhaustive updating of works that are of fundamental importance in the study of Ancient History, as well as the best analysis and evaluation of archaeological materials, which are scattered to such an extent that all traditional methods of data collecting would prove themselves very arduous. On this occasion I would like to present a new database dedicated to a specific kind of artifacts, that are epigraphic supports showing Roman citizens’ tribal ascription, with the aim of supplying a tool for the constant updating of the late 19th century cornestone that is Imperium romanum tributim discriptum, Praha 1889, by Wilhelm Kubitschek. This fundamental work, which is to this day the only existing catalogue raisonné concerning the tribal ascription in the Roman empire, proves itself to be timeworn by now as regards documentation that has considerably increased in more than one century of archaeological investigations and discoveries, although it still offers topical causes for reflection.

Nowadays very efficient tools, permitting us a deeper investigation of fundamental issues, are made available thanks to new technologies. Their usefulness is clearly verifiable, in particular when we have to deal wih a great amount of data needing to be managed and analyzed, such as the tribal ascription case in the Roman world. This study will focus on the diffusion of the 35 tribes through the whole empire, which is to be considered the first step of a future and necessary work reconsidering the modalities and times of Roman tribes propagation through the empire.
Le nuove tecnologie possono mettere a nostra disposizione degli strumenti validissimi per approfondire questioni fondamentali; la loro utilità risulta evidente, in particolare, quando ci troviamo davanti ad una grande massa di dati da gestire e analizzare: è il caso della ascrizione tribale nel mondo romano. In questo lavoro ci si concentrerà sulla diffusione, in tutto l’impero, delle 35 tribù, prima tappa di un futuro e necessario lavoro di riconsiderazione delle modalità e dei tempi di propagazione delle tribù romane nell’impero.

Il giudizio sulla figura e l’opera dell’imperatore Claudio è stato spesso condizionato dalla sua fama di uomo debole e inetto, alimentata dalle fonti antiche. Egli, in realtà, proseguì fedelmente l’opera iniziata da Augusto e favorì l’integrazione nello Stato romano delle popolazioni provinciali che ancora ne erano escluse. L’interesse suscitato da Claudio presso la storiografia moderna attesta questa complessa problematica. In tale prospettiva, così ampia e ricca di questioni aperte, una bibliografia ragionata come quella qui proposta diventa un utile strumento per orientarsi tra le diverse opinioni espresse dagli studiosi.

En este capítulo se examina un caso particular de la adscripción tribal de las ciudades romanas de la Tarraconensis, como es el de aquellos casos en que, en una determinada comunidad cívica, aparecen individuos pertenecientes a distintas tribus. El análisis se hace ciudad por ciudad, con el objetivo de determinar cuántos de los adscritos a tribus discrepantes con la habitual fueron forasteros, incluso provenientes de otras provincias extra-peninsulares. Puesto que en el estado actual de nuestros conocimientos, es obligatorio casi siempre aceptar la communis opinio que convierte en tribu oficial de una ciudad la prevalente entre quienes allí vivieron, la indagación debe centrarse en los casos discrepantes, conscientes de que incluso los incluídos en la tribu canónica pudieron resultar de la mescolanza de aborigenes y forasteros provenientes de otras poblaciones de la provincia que compartieron las mismas tribus.
Il presente lavoro si occupa di un aspetto particolare della ascrizione tribale delle comunità romane della Tarraconensis. Lo scopo è analizzare i casi di compresenza di più tribù, città per città, nel tentativo di vedere quanti di questi individui, ascritti a tribù diverse da quelle alle quali risultano ascritte le comunità locali dei cittadini, provengono da altri luoghi, anche esterni al territorio della Penisola Iberica. Per questo genere di lavoro e sulla base delle evidenze attuali si è dovuto accettare il dato finora acquisito della tribù di ascrizione delle singole comunità (o piuttosto la tribù prevalente tra cittadini delle singole comunità), concentrandosi solo su quanti risultano ascritti ad una tribù diversa da quella ufficiale della comunità cittadina, pur nella consapevolezza che all’interno dello stesso nucleo di cittadini con la medesima ascrizione non sempre si ha a che fare con cittadini originari, in quanto a volte abbiamo sovrapposizioni di locali e immigrati da altre città iberiche con la medesima tribù di ascrizione.
Il presente lavoro si occupa di un aspetto particolare della ascrizione tribale delle comunità romane della Tarraconensis.
